Based in Hong Kong, The Hong Kong International Music Festival (HKIMF) is one of the key events in the world music field since 2013. It is organized by the Grandmaster Orchestral Music Society, presented by the Hong Kong Conservatory of Music. HKIMF co-organizes with renowned overseas music institutions such as California State University, Los Angeles, University of Denver, Texas Christian University, etc., sending top music professors as jurors in competitions and offering overseas performance opportunities. Every August, the festival week holds with music competitions, masterclasses, concerts, and many more. The 6th terms in 2019 attracted around 90,000 contestants from over 150 regions, and 1,000 of them entered the final round of the competitions and there are some of the contestants from South Korea got a great result in the competitions.
In recent years, the world has been affected by COVID-19, forcing the activities to be held online. All the competitor’s performances were scored by applied video, and the masterclass was taught by live video streaming software. Even though the number of participants has dropped sharply due to the epidemic, “The 8th Hong Kong International Music Festival 2021″ still has more than 10,000 participants, and more than 1,000 people successfully entered the finals to compete for the championship.
In 2022, we will usher in the 9th Hong Kong International Music Festival”, and this year will be the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland. On this meaningful year, HKIMF will keep focus on music and promote the mutual learning of music culture in local and overseas, enhance the mutual recognition and respect of music lovers around world. At the same time, we will keep building up an international music platform promote Hong Kong as an international cultural metropolis. and respect between music lovers around the world.
